An Asteroid Is Going To Hit Italian Wine Appellations

Personally, I don’t know if dinosaurs were truly killed by an enormous asteroid. Nevertheless, I can imagine those giant reptiles looking at the shining light that would have killed  them shortly.
Eventually just a few living beings survived: they were those that kept evolving thereafter.
Similarly, I think that an asteroid is going to hit a considerable number of Italian wine appellations and consortiums.
This asteroid has two names: Prosecco and Pinot Grigio delle Venezie doc. The former is produced in 500 million bottles per year, while the latter – recently approved by the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies – will reach about 240 million bottles from its first vintage.
In my opinion, after the birth of these two enormous appellations, both concentrated in the North East of Italy, everything is going to change in the Italian wine sector.
Lately, considering bulk wine transactions, Italian sparkling wine is tending to the price of Prosecco. Equally, Italian white wine is likely to tend to the Pinot Grigio delle Venezie price, while red wine prices will be affected by the trend imposed by Prosecco and Pinot Grigio.
Accordingly, most of Italian appellations will have to evolve, either assuming a wider dimension or a strong specialization.
